Weep, Old Man

Weep, old man, for years all wasted away,
Each a precious gem, and each fore'er gone;
Youth was frittered in wild and foolish play,
Old age in vain pursuits best left unknown.
He sought no Golden Fleece or Holy Grail;
Men looked to him in vain for higher fruit;
The world's no better for his aimless trail;
None mourns his passing; his epitaph's mute.
God's plan for his life he ne'er sought or knew;
It could have filled each year with noble days;
He'd have walked with giants and been thought one, too;
Heaven had sung his fame and earth his praise.
Weep old man, for none else will shed a tear
At the end of one more selfish career.

To love as Jesus taught us to, we need to keep a Bible handy, so that we can find and read God's words of truth for us. In Psalms 139:16, we are told:

"All the days ordained for me
were written in your book
before one of them came to be."

Paul wrote to the Christians in the church at Ephesus:

"Wake up, O sleeper, rise from the dead,
and Christ will shine on you.

Be very careful, then, how you live---not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity..." (Ephesians 5:14-16)

God has a plan for your life. Find it, live it, and rest content in the knowledge that Jesus Christ is pleased with how you loved others.
