"Who needs you?" I snarled at the Holy Joe,
When he kept nagging me to spoil my fun;
"I didn't ask you here, and you must go;
See, I have it all, and I need no one,
Least of all a Jesus-peddling threadbare!
Begone with your psalm-quoting teariness!
For goody-goody mumbo, I don't care!
Your constant nagging gives me weariness!"
Well, he continued reaching out to me,
Until I could no longer turn him down;
Gave up my sins for his Lamb of Calvary;
Traded empty thrills for a royal crown!
Now new seemed the world, and how full my cup;
How grateful for him who never gave up!
It's not easy to witness for Jesus when most people feel self-sufficient and live out their lives seemingly without a thought for their Creator. To a child of God who is aware of the awesome love He has poured out on human beings merely to provide a small planet where we have a safe place to live and on which mankind can thrive, it is puzzling that anyone can live oblivious of God who made it possible. Life itself He gave to each of us, and that is a greater gift than the friendly planet. A third gift is that of Jesus Christ, whose free offer of eternal life is ours for the accepting of it; yet some people seem to resent it when told the "good news". It is tragic indeed when those of us who want to be saved can't reach spouse, child, or loved one. I'm sure God has comfort for those who do enter heaven and find cherished loved ones absent!
Thank God for my parents who first took me to church at two weeks of age. I am grateful that I entered a family who taught me that attending church twice on Sunday and on Wednesday evening was obligatory. Many, many children born today have not been so blessed. and forming the habit later in life is much more difficult. If this applies to you, for the sake of spending eternity with loved ones, don't turn them away when they strive with you!
