Meat and drink fuel the engine of our days;
Few know, or care, the source from which they come.
The Creator of earth gets little praise
For filling our needs, be they feast or crumb.
What? Yours is earned by the sweat of your brow?
No help from men or God, but only you?
From whence the air that does your lungs endow?
Or heat? Or light? So that work you can do?
Think you safety on earth by chance was formed?
Or fertile soil on each body in space?
No! God ordained earth to be so adorned,
For us; no other did He so efface!
Puff not up pride, as if man is self-made;
Only earth is safe, and it by God's aid!
God created the universe by the sound of His voice 14 billion years ago, and there was no short cuts. He expelled energy into a vaccuum of nothingness that swirled, expanded, heated, and boiled itself into thick soup; out of this, all matter was created; every element; every heavenly body; every person that ever lived; earth, sun, moon and stars; all formed themselves exactly as He preplanned and intrinsically ordered them to do!
The only infinitesimal spot in the entire universe that human life can survive in contains the earth. It stretches the imagination when you realize the enormous effort God made just so we could safely exist for these few years--the soil that grows our food; the natural laws that interact with every form of life so intricately that each supports the others, etc.
God expects us to recognize His handiwork in nature (See Psalm 19), and He also expects us to give our gratitude and praise for it. Not only from nature should we recognize God, but from His written revelation of Himself, the Bible. There is no excuse for a person, no matter in what remote spot on earth, not to appreciate the God that loves us so much.
