Expecting Jesus' Return

We're not to know the day of His return,
Though many've tried but failed to name the day;
In scripture much is meant for our concern,
But God holds some back, so that none may say,
"I know the mind of God; He tells me most!"
Yet my thoughts soar highest on Sunday morn,
And His presence to me is ne'er so close;
I can almost hear fair Gabriel's horn
And the whirring of angels' wings aloft!
My pew's the center of the universe;
The Holy Spirit's voice whispering soft
Praise of the Savior for me to rehearse!
In Sunday church how I love to expect
Jesus' coming, all His saved to collect!

Prophecies in the Bible tell us that Jesus is coming back to earth; when He comes, there will be a worldwide resurrection of believers. He will gather them to Him in the eastern sky, and their new undying bodies, complete with their souls that He has kept for them, will be with Him forever. What a happy day that will be!

"At that time the sign of the Son of Man will appear in the sky, and all the nations of the earth will mourn. They will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of the sky with power and glory, and he will send his angels with a loud trumpet call, and they will gather his elect from the four winds, from one end of the heavens to the other." (Matthew 24:30-31)

"For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first." (1 Thessalonians 4:16)

In the Matthew passage, Jesus tells His apostles about His second coming to earth. Next, Paul assures us that those who have died believing in Jesus as Lord will have an instantaneous resurrection in new bodies from their graves. Since we don't know how soon this will be, it would be wise of you to accept His death on the cross in payment of your sins now---this minute---so that you won't be left in the grave until the final resurrection and Judgment Day.

How To Be Included In The Resurrection Of The Saved

No human being can guarantee you will be saved by what you do. It will depend on what God finds in your heart. Believe truly that the man Jesus was God come to live as a man. Admit to yourself that you have committed sins in not living as God taught us to live, which is to love Him with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength; to make Him the top priority of your life; begin living a new life by loving others as yourself. Confess your past and future sins to God, and ask Him to forgive you. Get involved in God's church and with His people. Stand firm against the lies of Satan and the social pressures that draw you away from the life God has for you. Try your best; I'm sure you will be found worthy if you do.
