IS YOUR BODY A TEMPLE OF GOD?

Two souls, lately debarked from ships of dust,
Hovered o'er tombs where erstwhile bodies lay;
Told how each had worn his casing of trust;
What god each blessed in his journey in clay.
"I tested how strong my vessel was built;
Gluttony by day and Bacchus* by night,"
Bragged one, "I lived a life full to the hilt;
No time wasted on whether wrong or right!"
"I thought my flesh was God's, to live or die,
Up to Him; mine to keep it strong and pure;
That men who looked on me saw Him, not I;
My flesh His Temple; I kept it secure!"
Then each turned to go a different way-
One to deepest night; one to brightest day!

*Bacchus=Greek god of drink

I have heard many say, "My body is my own; I'll do what I want with it!" Usually some kind friend has tried to advise the protester of some wise change of habit, like to quit smoking. The person who believes their body is their own is usually unaware that the Bible clearly tells the Christian his body is not his own, it is a temple of God the Holy Spirit. That is why to commit suicide is a sin.

1 Corinthians 6:19-20 "Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own. You are bought at a price. Therefore, honor God with your body."

Nothing could more definitively contrast the fake religion of Islam and the genuine one of Christianity. In Islam, suicide bombing is the only sure way for a Muslim to be admitted to Paradise. In Christianity, we must not mistreat, risk, or neglect our bodies, because to do so is to dishonor God. Since smoking is a sure way of harming your body, it is a sin to smoke. Since using drugs for recreation harms the body, doping is a sin. Engaging in sex without protection from STD is a sin. Eating the things which make you overweight is a sin.

Of course, if you don't care about God enough to take care of your body, you may not believe in God, in which case you can do as you please with your body. But it is not yours in that case either; it is Satan's.
