GPP 63: Saved, Not Yet Sanctified

You are saved by faith—in Jesus, belief
That He is Lord; for your sins He died;
Was raised from death; rules the world , the Chief—
But then comes the hard part: To be sanctified!
Little by little, bit by struggling bit,
You should turn from life in sync with the world,
And begin living as Jesus sees fit—
Your old lifestyle in the garbage-heap hurled!
You’ll never perfect the change on this earth,
While in the flesh, but your Lord is willing
To add the rest, making you heaven-worth,
When you get there, your will-power filling!
No flesh but Jesus e’er lived sanctified;
Only in heaven, will His mark be tied!

Promise Made: 1 Thessalonians 5:23-24 (Paul writes)—“May God himself, the God of peace, sanctify you through and through. May your whole spirit, soul and body, be kept blameless at the coming of the Lord Jesus Christ. The one who calls you [Lord Jesus Christ] is faithful, and he will do it.” (NIV) [Brackets added]

“For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have everlasting life.” (John 3:16)

“That if you confess with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord’, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.” (Romans 10:9)
