“By my Spirit, not by power or might,”*
God said His Son would win the souls of men;
Jesus entered Zion**, bringing gospel light,
Riding a donkey, meekly, souls to win!
The common people welcomed Him in joy,
Waving fronds and shouting hosannas high;
Not the leaders, who plotted Him destroy,
Zealous in hatred, wanting Him to die!
The donkey and acclaim enraged them more,
Reminding all of David, their great name;
He, too, rode a donkey, to people’s roar—
To royalty, Jesus was laying claim!
No one entered Jerusalem mounted;
That honor only for Messiah counted!
