Jesus Foretold: Everlasting Covenant (MP 91)
God made with men an unbreakable pact—
That all who in Jesus truly believe,
He will their sins forgive, their deaths subtract,
And everlasting life with Him receive!
Unlike Law, which required men to obey,
This new covenant conveys God’s free grace,
Adding His pow’r each man’s lack to belay*;
God’s Holy Spirit guiding in life’s race!
There is no god so wonderful as He;
He provides life when death to all was due,
Suffering death Himself to set men free—
Nailed to the cross in place of me and you!
This grace covenant He planned from the start,
For God foreknew man’s untrustworthy heart!
*belay = to stop; in this usage, to fill
