Weep Not For Old Loves

Of humankind, all to dust return,
Save only the eternal soul of man;
It was a gift of God, for He did yearn
To dwell with His creature in spirit-land!
Marriage and sex for earth alone were made,
Each family, one husband and one wife;
Gender and sex remain where'r the flesh is laid;
Kinship, like blood, is only for this life!
O joy! A greater love awaits the saved,
And a new relation, in heaven's reign;
When the agape* love of Christ is engraved,
And the loves of earth no longer sustain!
Weep not for the old loves that the grave has cost;
Grace will richly replace what you have lost!

*agape = divine love

"Jesus replied, 'You are in error, because you [rhe Saducees] do not know the Scriptures or the power of God. At the resurrection people will neither marry nor be given in marriage; they will be like the angels in heaven." (Matthew 22:29-30) [Brackets added]

When a saved person dies, his or her soul is immediately escorted to heaven, and the body is buried, or whatever. The body will return to dust to mingle with the earth and will be resurrected when Christ returns. He will make it into a new imperishable body and rejoin it to the same soul. The soul contains the memory. Now, before the return of Christ, all the saved souls are in heaven with Christ the Lord. The soul is recognizable, recognizes others, can speak, and mingles with others who have died in a saved condition.

The soul of a person who is not saved has the same capabilities, but is carried immediately to a place of torment. When time ends, there will be a Day of Judgment; all bodies will be resurrected into new imperishable condition, will rejoin their souls, and be judged. They will be sent to the lake of burning sulphur and tormented forever.

Either as souls or in new bodies, we will recognize our families, friends and acquaintances in heaven or hell, but our earthly kinships and bonds will no longer be valid, and there is no sexual contact, because our bodies do not propagate. Angels do not reproduce; neither will we. We will have many powers that we do not possess in the flesh. We will be able to assume other forms, move instantly from place to place; in other words, we will have angelic powers. We will not be subject to pain, illness, or death. In heaven there will be no anxiety or emotional problems. We will have no desire to return to earthly life.
