GPP 52: Bodies Arise

How can you enjoy this life while knowing
Each day subtracts part of your dwindling store;
Which, when gone, means kaput*, no more going,
Your body lies in blackness evermore!
Such the atheist, for whom no God lives;
Death and the grave being the final end:
Just one chance at mark-making, nature gives;
Body to dust; no soul, heaven to send!
But belief in Jesus alters aspects;
He will not leave your body in the grave—
It will rise all new, and Jesus perfects—
And for your soul, at death, heaven will save!
Nothingness is not all, as some expect:
It’s lasting torment, if Christ you reject!

*kaput = finished; no more

Promise Made: Psalm 16:9-10 (David sings)—
“Therefore my heart is glad, my tongue rejoices; my body will also rest secure, because you [Lord Jesus Christ] will not abandon me to the grave, nor will you let your Holy One [Jesus] see decay.” (NIV) (Brackets added]

“For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have everlasting life.” (John 3:16)

“That if you confess with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord’, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.” (Romans 10:9)
